In the third episode of the sixth series, Sarah Beeny visited Jodie and Matt's home in Streatham, South London. Their approach to developing was relaxed to say the least, but the finished result was a lovely home. So did they sell or did they move on, and what advice would they offer to potential developers?
By Lucy Searle
Lucy: 'You seemed massively laid back about your development. If you hadn't had Sarah and the crew there, would you still be doing it now?'
Matt: 'We are still doing it now! We're still working on the garden as well as the outside of the house. One of the reasons we went on the show was to have an external incentive and motivation to help push us along, otherwise I'm sure we'd be a lot further behind.'
Lucy: 'What made you choose that particular house?'
Jodie: 'We'd seen quite a few houses that would have been alright but none of them had any of their original features and so felt rather characterless. As soon as we walked into this one, we instantly saw all the period features and felt that we could do it justice by bringing it back to its former glory.'
Lucy: 'Are you still living there and what are your plans?'
Jodie: 'Yes, we're still here and plan to be for the short to medium term. It's a beautiful house and we're not ready to part with it just yet!'
Lucy: 'You did your own electrics - how did that come about?'
Jodie: 'Officially, I'm gonna have to say that an electrician did all the relevant work.'
Lucy: 'Did you do all the plumbing too?'
Jodie: 'No, a nice plumber did that.'
Lucy: 'What has put you off doing it again?'
Matt: 'I think that doing such a massive project in such a constrained timeframe made it such a time-consuming project that we didn't have time for anything else - we basically had no life outside of the project. So I think we might do it again, but on a much smaller scale.'
Lucy: 'Is Jodie doing another project yet?'
Matt: 'Not yet, but she is considering doing another one next year sometime.'
