Aimee Mann

Aimee Mann

Mann was born in Richmond, Virginia and attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston.

She didn't stay there, and instead dropped out to sing with her first band, punk rockers, the Young Snakes in 1982. In 1983 she left punk for a return to "sweetness and melody" in the form of Til Tuesdsay, the band she formed with former classmate and boyfriend Michael Hausman.

Though she started in 80s punk it's the lyrically intimate and sonically complex writing of the 90s and beyond that Mann is best known for.

Since the break up of Til Tuesday in 1990 she has worked solo, releasing albums in her own right. She also penned the soundtrack for the film Magnolia in 1999.

Her writing reflects her eclectic interests, from boxing to psychology and the despair of addiction.
