Alan Alda

Alan Alda

Born in 1936 in New York, Alda gained international acclaim on the hit TV series M*A*S*H (1972-1983), for his leading role as Hawkeye Pierce.

More recently, Alda has been a regular cast member on The West Wing.

A political activist, he has always been a strong supporter of women’s rights, and in 1976 he co-chaired the Equal Rights Amendment Committee.

In his latest film, Resurrecting the Champ, he stars alongside Josh Hartnett. It's due out in cinemas later this year (2007).

He published his first batch of memoirs in 2005, Never Have Your Dog Stuffed: and Other Things I've Learned.
