Business and Money Brown accused of 'caving in' over fuel plans as backbench revolt grows

Prime minister Gordon Brown is facing a rebellion from more than 100 Labour MPs demanding a windfall tax on energy firms.

They've ruled out one-off payments for families struggling to pay fuel bills, now the government is facing a growing revolt from its own side.

Gordon Brown has been accused of "caving in" to the energy companies after he said there would be no "short term giveaways" in next week's energy plan.

More than 100 Labour MPs, including some ministers, are also demanding a windfall tax, saying energy companies are still putting up prices even though the cost of oil is now going down.
