The Republican nominee for the White House John McCain brought the St Paul convention to a close last night with a promise of change.
It sounded more like the rallying cry of an opposition than a man whose party has been in power for the last eight years.
John McCain sought to cast himself as the maverick outsider, as he promised delegates "change is coming'".
This was a deliberate snub to the last eight years, with no reference to President Bush and barely a nod to the Republican party by name.
And within hours of this convention wrapping up - a new message has been winging its way to supporters: a vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin is a vote to reform Washington.
